The VerDe platform: The Process Architecture

Click on the icons above for a detailed process description and navigation through the BPMN model.

Process Description

The underlying BPMN model renders the high-level architecture of the VerDe platform. Interestingly, Academic Units instantiate a registration request and any third party (e.g., individuals, companies, other HEIs) submit a verification request. In detail, VerDe is composed of a smart contract operating on the Ethereum blockchain and two interfaces for the initialization of the registration and verification processes. In the abstract architectural view, a registration or verification request is initially propagated to the VerDe platform. Thereafter, VerDe invokes a smart contract’s function to handle the user’s request (i.e., registration/verification of an individual). Being processed by the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), a response is returned to the platform, which is further propagated to the end-user, thus rendering the fulfillment of the user's request.
